The Best Time of Year to Get Married in Grand Junction

A month-by-month guide to weddings in the Grand Valley — light, weather, pricing, and which season fits the wedding you actually want.

Grand Junction's high-desert climate gives you a longer, more reliable outdoor wedding season than almost anywhere else in Colorado. With 245 sunny days a year and low humidity, the question isn't really 'will it be nice?' — it's 'which kind of nice fits your wedding?'

Spring (April – Early June): Crisp Light and Wildflowers

Highs in the 70s-80s, the Grand Mesa still showing patches of snow on its rim, and the cottonwoods leafing out bright green. Evenings cool nicely but without that fall chill.

Best for:

• Garden-inspired floral designs
• Earlier sunsets for cozy evening receptions

Summer (Mid-June – August): Chasing Golden Hour

Sunset slides past 8:30pm, which means you can run a 6pm ceremony with golden-hour portraits and still have a full reception ahead. The trade-off is temps — afternoons regularly hit the mid-90s or greater. Smart summer weddings shift the ceremony to 6 or 7pm and lean into the evening.

• Couples who want guaranteed long daylight
• Big celebrations with lots of dancing

Fall (September – October): The Sweet Spot

If we had to pick one season, it's this one. Daytime highs settle into the 70s, evenings stay comfortable, and the cottonwoods are turning gold against the red Monument cliffs. The light through October is unreal. It's also the most popular season, so book 12–18 months out for prime weekends.

• Lush, established landscaping at its seasonal peak

Winter (November – March): Quiet Romance

While outdoor wedding venues in Grand Junction are generally closed during the winter months, it's still a wonderful time to tour venues, meet vendors, and secure your date for the upcoming season. Planning ahead means more availability, less stress, and a smoother wedding experience once spring arrives.

• Budget-conscious weddings with greater venue availability
• Cozy receptions with candlelight, fireplaces, and seasonal decor

A Few Local Notes

• Afternoon thunderstorms are most common mid-July to mid-August. They typically pass quickly, but it's wise to have a rain plan in place.
• Grand Junction's spring wind tends to pick up in the late afternoon; easy fix, use spandex linens (pro move!) and sandbag signage. Zip ties hold anything!
• Low humidity keeps outdoor weddings comfortable, while a simple basket of lip balm helps guests stay comfortable throughout the celebration.
